My original schedule had you discussing lesson plans for a good lecture, and asked you to bring a tentative plan to class for critique/comparison. Apparently, the schedule is slightly revised, so I am not sure what you are covering today. Please comment here on what you did in class, and note what you think is the most important thing you learned from the class. Before the semester ends, make sure you have added to your electronic portfolio a lesson plan for a lecture and a lesson plan for a good discussion.

We learned tons of good things on how to give a good lecture yesterday. We learned that the best student has an attention span of around six minutes, while the lower end students might only have an attention span of 45 seconds. This means that the teacher needs to get as much bang for their buck when it comes to lectures. A teacher should only lecture for a maximum of 20 minutes and then do something else for a while (even if it is only going to get a drink of water). A teacher does not have to be the best lesson planner to be a good lecturer. A teacher needs to enjoy what they are doing, have fun, and make the lesson their own to be a good lecturer.
I showed up a little late from Leola, but I definitely learned a lot from the lecture. AJ has it right on--you may only have 45 seconds in a classroom, and perhaps only 6 minutes for the best students to get their attention and keep it. I have had to revise my lesson plans for my teaching this week to reflect what I learned at that class. I now have some time set aside for active participation every day I am teaching to help keep attention. It was a great lecture, and hopefully it will pay off in my upcoming lectures.
I would have to agree that the best advice we all received from class was that we have very little time to get every students' attention. That time is the most crucial part of a lecture. I also agree with the fact that a teacher has to do what works for him/her and to be as organized as possible to make the lecture as effective as it can be.
Sorry, I would love to commment on this lesson but i could not be there because of the wounderful Exit exams i had to take the kicked my butt. FYI for everyone else study your chinesee history
i learned alot of fun facts about lecture and students in this class! The facts about attention spans and ways to hold the attention of students for longer periods of time was very interesting. We learned things about how to do this, and how to experiment with different ways of doing this. I will consider alot of these things when i first begin working in the profession and test these theories for myself.
