Once Around the Race Course

Few things are more important to classroom success than good planning. What did you learn from today's class session and/or the reading assignment that you think is particularly important to remember when attempting to plan effective classes/courses?

I love the idea of hooks and would love more information and different ideas on hooks that could start the class. It is always good to look at more lesson plan designs so a person can get one that fits them the best. It is also good to hear how other people would write different lesson plans and objectives. All of the preparation for a lecture or class seems like a lot of work, until one has had a bad class because they were not prepared for it. Speaking of lesson plans I need to go write one now, later. Happy Blogging .

In class we talked about putting together units and lesson plans, the idea of starting with what you want as a result rather than what you want to do as a lesson appealed to me. It makes sense, rather than just saying hey lets do that it sounds fun, and then have no idea where to go from there. This way you create your lesson with a goal, an agenda. The amount of work to be had with that stuff scares me!

I also like the idea of using hooks in my planning. I know that I find subjects more interesting when they are associated with my life or help explain things that happen today. I have already gotten tons of lessons plans from my junior blocks but liked getting more. I don't know what plan I want to use and the more I see the better it will be when I have to actually do them.

I have to agree with AJ on this topic. Hooks are especially good to a classroom. I was able to take advantage of this in my mini-teaching presentation during my block classes, and it yielded much better results.

Organization is definitely a key to success, and yes, detailed lesson plans are a must, especially in the UBD format.

I would have to say that the most important thing is tryign to reach your students. if you reach your students you can have them eating out of the palm of your hand. of course that will not always happen that is when you haveing good discipline comes in. if a person has good discipline and can reach their kids most of the time the can always count on their kids at least learnign something.
