Molder of Dreams

How did you like the Guy Doud video? What did you think particularly useful in his advice/comments on teaching? What about his teaching makes him an appropriate "teacher of the year?"

The movie was educational, fun, and sad all at the same time. It was one of the few great education movies I have seen. Doud does not teach English, Poetry, or Grammar he teaches students. He teaches the individual and not the content. Granted the content is very important (and a must if one wants to keep their job). As a good teacher or actor one must know the audience and when the audience is different the “act” or lesson plan must change a little bit as well. He is definitely without a doubt a very appropriate candidate for teacher of the year. Plus the Norwegian Minnessoootaa accent does not hurt either. Happy Blogging!

I greatly enjoyed the video. His advice and actions are exactly how every teacher in the nation should be. He points out that we are more than just a person that teaches content but people who can teach life lessons and be there for students. This is exactly why he was the 'teacher of the year.' Anyone can drill students with content but a great teacher is one that can turn around lives or prepare a student for more than just the next exam but the rest of their lives.

the movie was inspiring. I thought that the stories of his career offer lessons to anyone that is or wants to be an educator. His statements about the things that matter more than split-infinitives, that was really something i took to heart while watching it, thinking about the great teachers and the poor teachers i've had in the past. The bad ones would have been more into how i was coming with split infinitives than a problem that i had. Guy Doud rocks!

'Molder of Dreams' was an absolutely terrific film. The way Mr. Doud is able to teach kids, not just his students' content, and in more than the normal way. He gets very personal with them, and because of this the kids respect him and open up to him. He was a no-brainer choice for teacher of the year. His advice is exactly what teachers need to hear: Split infinitives aren't nearly as important than some of your students on some days. Teachers need to be able to adjust to their students, who need a teacher's help as a role model more than anyone else. Mr. Doud, you are awesome!

I thought this movie was an excelent motivational movie for all teachers. The things i found most useful were the stories about how no one thought that he was worth anything but it was just a handfull of teachers that effected his life. Also, the other thing that i found important was how he explained that those are the kids that we really need to touch as teachers so that they don't feel left out. Another thing was that sometimes our students will be going through things that we probably wont understand and it will make everything else seem so irrelevant. i think that he is the best candidate because of how well he conects to his students and doesn't leave one just by himself.
